Written by Mike Finders and Bill Powers The million dollar highway heads south from Ouray, past silver palaces on high. One side goes straight up, the other falls away, you swear you could touch the sky. But at eleven thousand feet, when that snow starts to fall, this ain't no place to play around. There was a time no one was fool enough to try, but this morning I'm Red Mountain bound. And the good lord will take me when he wants me. Sometimes that candle burns fast. Everyone knows, it's the way it goes, each trip could be your last. Someone's got to plow that pass. Somebody's got to plow that pass. I plow the Red Mountain Pass. I use my senses they're the tools of my trade. Both size and speed are on my side. These eyes, these ears, a keen sense of my blade, and a little luck to be my guide. Well, I've known some good men who ain't up here today. Some lost the will, some missed the curve. Anything can happen, you can always lose your way. I'm holding on with my last nerve. I got called up here before this storm blew in. Can't see the road from the blowin' snow. I'm hangin' on white knuckled, my breath is growing thin, 'Round another corner I go. Well, I've seen some big storms, but this one tops them all. My gut knows that mountain rumblin' sound. I can't see where I'm going and I can't afford to stall, Either way, I'm coming home.

Written by Mike Finders I could play "Uncle Pen" before I was ten, fiddle "Sally Goodin" all day. I could steal the smiles of all those old guys as we'd sit on the old porch and play. There'd often be a bottle goin 'round, that I soon began to crave. And it's the only life I've ever known, I'll be fiddlin' to my grave. Well I coulda gone to the army, I guess, or got a job at the old lumber yard. But it'd be a waste not to taste that sweet moonshine, and workin' just seemed too hard. I guess I knew from early on, I'd be no boss-man's slave. And it's the only life I've ever known, I'll be fiddlin' to my grave. So I hopped in a van, with a band, and we hit that old road playing two hundred shows a year. And all the places and times blur into one long line in the haze of the smoke and the beer. A few of the ladies tried to take me in. They found I could not be saved. And it's the only life I've ever known, I'll be fiddlin' to my grave. Now the time has gone by in the blink of an eye and I'm old before I'm young. I got a cough that won't quit from the gin and cigarrettes I'll have to leave my last song unsung. There's no careplan there for a fiddler like me, no retirement did I save. And it's the only life I've ever known, I'll be fiddlin' to my grave.

Sold On You 04:13
Written by Mike Finders You didn't have to work so hard. You didn't have to run up your card. You didn't have to wear that dress. or get your hair done, 'cuz I've been sold on you since day one. You didn't have to make a big scene, or be a girl in a magazine. I think that you've done just fine with all that you've done. And I've been sold on you since day one. On day one I was taken in total. On day one I was turned to love's fool. Wonderin' if you'd ever love me. And now it seems that you were wonderin' too. I could never let you know how far I'd be willin' to go for fear that you might take me there and leave me undone. And I've been sold on you since day one.

Written by Mike Finders If you want a little more, you've gotta give a little back. If you want a little more, you've gotta give a little back. If you don't give back, but you're takin' more and more, you're bound to lose track of what you're takin' it for. If you want a little more, you've gotta give a little back. Let's just say your wagon wheel gets stuck. You push and push, but you ain't havin' any luck. If you give a little back, make a little move, You can start yourself a whole new groove. If you want a little more, you've gotta give a little back. Let's just say you find yourself in jail. Would there be anybody for to go your bail? Would there be friends and family standing in line, each of them wanting to pay your fine? If you want a little more, you've gotta give a little back. Let's just say your pension up and disappears. Some big corporate hotshot cashes in on all your hard-earned years. You're gonna wish you were a little bit better to your mean, rich, old Aunt Loretta. If you want a little more, you've gotta give a little back.

Oh Darlin’, I wish you’d stay, and we’ll sing all our cares away Just sing me back to where I long to be. Hey Darlin’, just forget the night, and we’ll stay up ‘till the mornin’ light And let the world roll by us in the dark. CH: ‘Cause I can’t forget the days that we chased that old sun down And we’d spend all our time and dimes just a Honky Tonkin’ round. So darling, kick off your shoes, and pass the booze We’ll sing a song before too long, just me and you, us two for old time’s sake. Well Darlin’, I know it’s late, you’re leaving soon and I just hate to say goodbye and send you on your way. Please darlin’, don’t say it’s so, it breaks my heart to see you go So I’ll wait right here ‘till you come back to me. CH: ‘Cause I can’t forget the days that we chased that old sun down And we’d spend all our time and dimes just a Honky Tonkin’ round. So darling, kick off your shoes, and pass the booze We’ll sing a song before too long, just me and you, us two for old time’s sake.

Nebraska 04:06
Written by Mike Finders It's the third letter since the first you sent. Makes me wonder why we ever went to Nebraska, Nebraska on the plains. I wish you'd be quicker with your reply. Too much time leaves me wonderin' why we're in Nebraska, Nebraska on the plains. Well I wish I was back home in Putnam County. On the farm in Illinois. With my old porch swing and my two dear sisters and my brand new baby boy. I never wanted a dirt cabin out on the open plain all alone in the cold dry wind. No one ever stops in to say hello. From where we live it's so far to go out in Nebraska, Nebraska on the plains. And the wind hits the grass like the waves on the rocks, and it moans and it howls and it never stops out in Nebraska Nebraska on the plains. Baby took a fever the day after you left. For five days and five nights we never slept out in Nebraska, Nebraska on the plains. His crib's been silent for a day or so, I guess there are some things I don't wanna know out in Nebraska Nebraska on the plains. I wonder how you'll find me when you get home, if you're ever coming home, out to Nebraska.

Driftwood 04:22
Written by Mike Finders I have lived here on this river all my life. I ain' no freshly fallen log. And on this river I have seen some big sights. And I've been shut down in some bogs. I'm just an old piece of driftwood, I'm floatin' down. I might just stop around your town. If I can just bob around these big barges in between I might just make it down to New Orleans I hope I make it down to New Orleans. This old body, it's been sanded smooth by all the grit I've been in. This old body, it's been through the mill, It's been through the damn dam. In my time I have swum with some big fish. Some of them tried to take me for a fool. That's how I got all these little scars and dents cracks, and grooves that make me so cool. A busy beaver once tried to put me on a shelf, cover me up with varnish and stain. I just could not stay, I had to break away back to that sweet river flow again.

Written by Mike Finders Are you lonely just like me? Is your heart in desperate need of a song to sing on lonely nights? Are you blue beneath your smile? While you're laughing all the while, are you crying, deep down inside? We could sing a lonesome song together, you and me, a lonesome song. If we sang a lonesome song together, would we be lonesome, would we be wrong? If you're lonely too, maybe I should come to you. Together we could sing a lonesome song. Are you lonely there tonight, underneath that sad moonlight. Are you wishin' your bed was not so cold? If you only knew how I'm lyin' here in the blue. Dreamin' of someone that I could hold. We could sing a lonesome song, We could sing it all night long, Sing it 'til we're wakin' up at noon. We could sing it lonesome, me and you. Are you lonely where you are, underneath all the same stars? Are we really not all that far apart? I'm wishin' on one now, and I'm hoping that somehow I can find my way into your heart.

Written by Mike Finders Just a friend, you say, and no more. How can I forget what we had before? Just a friend, you say. It's the new way. I just can't let go of our sweet yesterdays. A smile, a wave, a quick hello as we pass by. Oh no, it won't do. I want our old lovin' back again. Just a friend, you say, and that's all. From our love, that's a long way to fall. We're just friends, you say, that's what we are. No matter where we've been, no matter how far. We're just friends, you say, as if I could be, as if I could go back in time, before you and me.
